Chapter 16
Gabby was sitting on her bed thinking about how she was going to apologize for leaving. She had to come up with something, but then she realized why bother. Those women would see through any lies she came up with. She had never truly had any close friends and to find these two women has been a blessing to her. She had her brother and she loved him dearly and valued his opinion, but it was nothing like talking things through with the girls.
She got up and got herself together because tonight was the rehearsal dinner and she knew she had to be there. Before she could get her clothes picked out, her doorbell rang. She made her way downstairs and opened the door to a nervous looking Keya and a pissed off Mina. This cannot be good.
“Come in,” she said kind of scared of what might happen. There is no way they could be this upset about her leaving.
The girls walked in and took a seat on her sofa. They just looked at her, apparently waiting on an explanation.
“Look, I know you’re unhappy that I left. I was going to come by and apologize.”
“Um huh,” Keya said.
“I was!” Gabby pleaded.
“Look, I understand seeing Slim with someone else was hard, but you have got to stop running.” Keya said
“I know. I’m sorry Mina,” Gabby said dropping her head.
“Sorry for what? Leaving our party, running out on Slim, or the huge fight Brock and I had last night?”
“What?”
“I warned you he was not going to let this go. Slim has been through enough and your games are not helping. You need to tell him the truth before we all lose out.”
“What do you mean…All,”
“Brock is so furious with me right now. He thinks I am so busy protecting you that I have thrown his brother into a web of deceit… I should have just told him the truth. But I knew it was not my truth to tell. I don’t know how to fix this. Hell I don’t even know if he is going to go through with this wedding,” Mina said as she burst into tears.
Keya ran over and comforted her sister while giving Gabby the evil eye. Gabby felt horrible, how could she have let this happen? How could she be the root of yet another couples misery? She has to fix this. She has to talk to Slim…After she makes things right with Brock. They love each other, and she will not sit back and watch her stupidity tear them apart.
“Mina, I swear I will fix this. There will be a wedding!” Gabby said as she took off upstairs to get ready to face an angry Brock. Then she will just have to force Slim to hear her out, no matter how it ends. She has got to fix this.
*****
“Yeah baby, she bought it. Now remember, you are almost ready to break things off… Slim’s pulling up? … Okay, call me and let me know how it turns out… I love you too.
